A road marking comprising a base layer adhered to the road with both a luminescent material and a transparent material being applied to at least the upper surface of the base layer. The transparent material may comprise glass beads, glass rods and/or glass powder, and the luminescent material may comprise a mixture of copper sulphide and zinc sulphide. The transparent material provides the road marking with retro-reflective properties, and the luminescent material absorbs light energy which is incident upon it, and then emits low-level light for a period of time. These properties serve to make the road marking more noticeable to road users at night time. |
