PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet cartridge and a method for ink jet recording using the ink jet cartridge capable of preventing an impurity from eluting into ink from an ink suction body and of forming a recording image with high quality. SOLUTION: An ink housing section housing an ink suction body is installed in an ink cartridge. In terms of the ink suction body, a maximum value of a difference between an absorption spectrum at a short wavelength region in a range of 200-300 nm of a solution including a water-soluble organic solvent which is used in the ink after the ink suction body is dipped into the solution and an absorption spectrum of the solution before the ink suction body is dipped thereinto is not greater than 0.5 Abs.
