PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cooling a high-temperature superconductor such as an oxide superconductor until reaching low temperature at low cost with a simpler and compact system. SOLUTION: A superconducting coil 2 is housed in a thermal insulating container 1, and the thermal insulating container 1 is filled with freezing medium 3', and the superconducting coil 2 is cooled with the freezing medium 3'. With thermal conductive members 5 and 6 brought into contact with the superconducting coil 2 and the freezing medium 3', the superconducting coil 2 and the freezing medium 3' are cooled by a cooling stage 12 of a refrigerating machine 10. By cooling with the refrigerating machine 10, the freezing medium 3' is solidified. Then the cooling stage 12 of the refrigerating machine 10 is dismounted to stop cooling with the refrigerating machine 10. The cooling condition of the superconducting coil 2 is maintained with the solidified freezing medium 3'. |
