The vehicle is fitted with a control circuit which monitors the fitted transmission system and determined which type has been fitted by comparing the measured readings with a table of stored values for the different options. The monitoring systems operate all the sensors and actuators of the fitted transmission in a clocking sequence. It measures all the gear ratios and compares the readings with stored values from a range of possible transmission types. For automatic transmissions the monitoring sequence is automatic, for manual transmissions the monitoring is performed during the normal use of the vehicle. The monitoring can be performed at programmed intervals. The monitoring system can be part of the vehicle management system. |
