Wet paste, such as mashed potato or similar products are dried on the outer surface of a heated drum and on a number of smaller satellite cylinders around it, touching the surface. The main drum is heated by steam. Each satellite has a scraper (10) associated with it, consisting of a blade (12) mounted on a tubular support beam (11). The beam itself is mounted on bearings (20, 20') at each end so it can be rotated about its longitudinal axis. There are a number of openings (14,14') along the length of the beam on one side. These act as nozzles to direct hot air (23), supplied to the ends of the beam, towards the satellite cylinders, helping speed up the drying process. |
