An original pipe fitting, comprises at least locally of thermally-weldable material (51). It is fitted to a pipe (56) of similarly-weldable material, in order to make a connection or repair. In the welding attachment region of the future contact surface (54) between fitting and pipe, an electrical heating wire is included. This has a circular cross section and forms several windings. As appropriate, each end of the winding has a contact, to which an electrical current source can be connected during welding. Windings and contacts are fixed in place by injection moulding of the weldable material. In a novel feature, an outer surface of the round cross section of the heating wire runs on the contact surface area (54) of the finished pipe fitting (50).
