PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition which has improved detergency in a highly hard water, and also improved capability of degradation by microorganisms, by compounding a specific alkylpolyglycoside and an alkali metal salt of glutamic iminodiacetic acid. SOLUTION: A lower alcohol glycoside obtained by glycosidating a plant- derived glucose with a lower alcohol is subjected to transglycocidation with a plant-derived long chain alcohol to thereby produce an alkylpolyglycoside represented by formula I wherein R is a 8-16C alkyl and n is 1.2 to 1.8. Glutamic acid obtained by hydrolyzing a plant-derived protein is cyanomethylated, and then hydrolyzed under an alkaline condition to thereby produce an alkali metal salt of glutamic iminodiacetic acid represented by formula II wherein Me is sodium, potassium or an alkanolamine. This composition comprises the above- mentioned alkylpolyglycoside and alkali metal salt of glutamic acid iminodiacetic acid in an weight ratio ranging from 1:3 to 3:1. |
