A method for evaluating skin conditioning agents for improving skin conditions or preventing skin conditions from worsening or external skin preparations containing the same by using animals having at least one skin site with damaged conditions in order to provide means for appropriately evaluating the above agents or preparations. This method comprises using as an indication a change in the extent of the dermal collagen fascicular order before and after applying the above agents or preparations to the damaged skin site.
