The appliance is controllable to treat a limited area of the foot in relation to a heel rest and has a massaging element positionally adjustable and comprising a head on a spring shaft which is agitated. A control unit positions the head in relation to the heel. The heel rest (2) is adjustable to present the required local area of the foot (3) to the massage element (5) which is part of the vibration unit (4). An electronic control unit (1) can be programmed to set the adjustment automatically. The vibration unit comprises a hammer head (8) contacting the foot and a spring stem (6) with longitudinal amplitude adjustment (7).
