An automotive manual gear selector lever rigid mechanism housing (1) is secured to and operated within a cover plate fitted to e.g. a hole (15) in the vehicle floor pan (4). The cover plate both seals the hole (15) and dampens oscillations which would otherwise be transferred from the floor pan (4) to the gear selector mechanism and selector lever. The vibration transmission paths are insulated by a series of elastic components (9, 10, 11, 12; 16) each optimised as required to provide physical support, act as a fixture, and minimise the transmission of vibration.
