PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable efficient desulfurization of the subject compounds as dibenzothiophenes, for example, dibenzothiophene or 4,6-dimethyl- dibenzothiophene, under mild conditions with a microorganism in Mycobacterium capable of desulfurizing sulfur-containing heterocyclic compounds. SOLUTION: Sulfur-containing heterocyclic compounds as dibenzothiophenes, for example, dibenzothiophene or 4,6-dimethyl-dibenzothiophene, are desulfurized by a microorganism in Mycobacterium capable of desulfurizing sulfur-containing heterocyclic compounds by fission of C-S bonds such as Mycobacterium G3 strain (FERM P-16105) whereby the sulfur compounds in the fossil fuel as dibenzothiophenes are effectively desulfurized to convert to 2-hydroxybiphenyl. |
