A spinnerette assembly useful in the meltspinning of, e.g. polyamides and polyesters, comprises a spinnerette adapter, a spinnerette, and a clamp plate having a plurality of screws engaging the adapter for securing the spinnerette to an outlet aperture of the adapter, wherein the securing screws are so arranged that, when a liquid to be spun is forced through the adapter and the spinnerette, the securing screws are in compression, not tension. The securing screws may be received in openings centred on the parting line between clamp plate and adapter, the openings comprising a threaded semi-cylindrical part in the clamp plate and an unthreaded semi-cylindrical part in the adapter. In one embodiment (Fig. 4) a spinning melt passes through inlet 17 and channels 18, 19 into distribution chambers 20, 21 in spinnerette adapter 16, and thence via filter 30 to orifices 29 in a flat steel plate spinnerette 28. Adapter 16 is secured to a clamp plate 22 by a series of threaded socketed set screws 23 disposed in holes 24 centred on the junction of the adapter and the clamp plate, Fig. 5. That half or portion of each hole 24 falling within clamp plate 22 is threaded, while that portion falling within adapter 16 has a smooth surface 25a and provides clearance for passage of the set screw. Each set screw pushes against a steel thrust washer 26 which in turn presses against a shoulder 27 on the adapter 16. When melt is forced into distribution chambers 20, 21, the resultant pressure therein produces a force C in the adapter and a force C1 in the clamp plate, which coact to place the set screws 23 under compression. For purposes of disassembly, retracting set screws 35 are provided in holes 37 also disposed along the junction of the adapter and the clamp plate. That portion of each hole 37 falling within the adapter 16 is threaded, while that portion falling within clamp plate 22 has a smooth surface 38a (i.e. the reverse of the clamping set screw holes 24). The action of turning set screws 35, which bear on shoulder 39 of the clamp plate, is thus to separate the adapter and clamp plate.
