An absorbent structure contains an absorbent upper layer, non-absorbent lower layer and absorbent middle layer comprising particles of a non-soluble absorbent, a hydrogel-forming polymer in amount of 25 to 90 percent by weight of the middle absorbent layer having 25 cm2; from 80 to 95 percent by weight of the absorbent polymer particles have the size from 105 to 297 um. The absorbent structures are useful in disposable absorbent articles such as diapers and as a protective for incontinent adults.
