The method involves a current of coal dust is diverted into a coal dust duct (18) from the coal-dust emerging from a coal-pulverising mill. The diversion occurs after an intermediate piece (17) through a fixed inner duct-wall and or a flap (27) either parallel with, or at right angles to, or at an angle to, the axis (29) of the striker wheel. The coal-dust stream is conveyed, or directly blown, into one or more main burners (2) of the furnace (1) by means of one or more coal-dust pipes (19). A second part-flow with exhaust gases and coal-dust is separated into a branch-pipe (21) with the aid of a fan (23). The flow is then returned to the main burner directly or via one or more nozzles (24) and pipes (25) near the mouth (26) of the coal-dust pipe.
