A flat key for a locking device has a generally T-shaped cross-section with a st em having oppositely-disposed sides each having at least one longitudinal groove. T he side walls of the grooves and the end of the stem are curved circularly or elliptical ly so as to provide the key with rounded surfaces. A key as provided herein avoids sharp edg es and angles thereby reducing the possibility of damage or injury.
