PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain fine irregular metal multiple oxide of high purity with little metal contamination by hydrolyzing and condensing a mixture of silicon alkoxide and specified metal alkoxide to obtain a gel, then pulverizing and burning the gel. SOLUTION: Water is added by 0.1 to 2.0mol to silicon alkoxide in the presence of an acid catalyst to induce partial hydrolysis and condensation to obtain a silicon alkoxide low condensate. The obtd. low condensate is mixed with an alkoxide of group IV metals in the periodical table except for silicon, or with a mixture of an alkoxide of these metals and an alkoxide of group I to III metals in the periodical table by 100:0 to 40:60 molar ratio, and the molar ratio of the mixture of the condensate and the alkoxide is 99:1 to 50:50. Then water is added by 2 to 100mol to one mole of the alkoxide to hydrolyze and condensate at -10 to 80 deg.C in the presence of an acid catalyst to obtain a gel. The gel is dried, pulverized and burned at 400 to 1400 deg.C to obtain an irregular metal oxide powder having <=10μm average particle size and <=200ppm sum content of Fe, Cr and Ni.
