PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a user to easily and readily obtain high resolution image data and high quality prints. SOLUTION: The stand-alone device is provided with a floppy disk FD drive unit 36. Image data picked up by a camera 32 are stored in a frame memory 42 via a controller 40 and an image processing section 41. The image processing section 41 conducts image synthesis so that the image has a format having sub-frames each consisting of 2×2 photo frames in addition to processing of gradation correction and matrix correction. The synthesized image is scanned and exposed on a photosensing material 54 by a laser printer 34, the result is given to a thermal development transfer unit 35, where the result is thermally developed and transferred on an image receiving sheet and a photograph 75a is produced. The FD drive unit 36 records the picked-up image data on an FD 46. Furthermore, the image data recorded on the FD 46 are read and the laser printer 34 and the thermal development transfer unit 35 are used to produce the photograph 75a based on the received image data. Thus, the stand-alone device is used for a personal use camera or printer and the high resolution image data and high quality prints are easily and readily obtained.
