A process for applying a corrosion protection layer to the surface of a cylinder (2) for the printing works (1) of a printing press, comprises: (a) providing the cylinders with a clean, micro rough surface by turning, etc.; (b) applying a thermally crosslinked plastic dissolved in a solvent uniformly to the cylinder surface; (c) drying the plastic layer and hardening and crosslinking at elevated temperature; and (d) mounting the cylinder without further processing. Also claimed is a printing press with a cylinder, whose surface carries a corrosion protection layer of 100 mu m thickness.
