The method involves using a variable access possibility on the networks of different network managers with the help of a computer system. Each request signal chain sent to the computer system, as well as each response signal chain received in response to the request signal chain, are stored in a memory of a communications terminal, implemented as an EEPROM. At selection of a target telephone number, it is examined, whether a corresponding response signal chain is already stored in the EEPROM. If that is the case, the desired connection is set up, otherwise, or if at least one connection attempt with the stored response signal chain was unsuccessful, the request signal chain is automatically forwarded to the computer system.
