A wheel and tyre assembly comprises separate chambers 14, 15 linked in such a way that gas flows more easily from the outer chamber 15 to the inner chamber 14. At least one passage 21 interconnecting the outer and inner chambers enables free flow of gas from one chamber to the other and passages 22 having one way valves 23 allow gas to flow only from the outer chamber to the inner chamber. The passages 21, 22 and valves 23 may be provided in a dividing wall 13 mounted between flanges 17, 18 of the tyre or in a smaller tyre body (30, Fig 2) or in a rigid housing (36, Fig 3). The tyre has a shock absorbing facility when the wall of the outer chamber 15 is deflected, for example when passing over an obstruction, which makes the tyre particularly suitable for use on earth moving and excavation vehicles. |
