The system for transmission of facsimile image data uses primary information symbols (654) representing a physical value, and a device (615) for determining redundant information symbols (657) which are intended to allow the correction of errors affecting the primary information symbols. An insertion system is provided for introducing the redundant information symbols into the primary information symbols, and a transmitter (699) is provided to transmit the symbols. A ratio selection device (698) is used, taking account of an estimate of the quality of the transmission over the transmission support. According to this quality estimate, the ratio between the redundant symbols transmitted and the primary information symbols transmitted is determined. |
