摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid the reduction of contrast in a plasma display panel of an interlaced system by regulating voltages to be impressed to slits which do not contribute to a display to be less than a discharge starting voltage in respective reset periods of odd numbered and even numbered fields. SOLUTION: Each subfield has as reset period and when an immadiately preceding subfield is completed, since a wall voltage in accordance with the display of the field is remained, a reset discharge is performed in the reset period being the biginning of a next field. This discharge is a strong discharge which is to be generated by impressing a voltage exceeding the discharge voltage between electrodes between sustenance electrodes Xi and scan electrodes Yn and uniformizes the electric charge distribution of respective discharge cells regardless of the discharge state in the immadiately preceding subfield. Then, in this system, respective electrode potentials are set to be more than the discharge starting voltage in display slits and to be less than the discharge starting voltage in non-display slits.
