摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent malfunction caused by excessive space charges generated by sustained electric discharge. SOLUTION: Between a last sustained discharge pulse 17 impressed during a sustained discharge period 3 of a preceding subfield SFn and a total write discharge pulse 19 impressed during a total write and erasing discharge period of the following subfield SF(n+1), a stabilized pulse 20 of the same pulse width as a period in which an electrode (for example, Y-electrode 6) becoming a negative side at a time of a total write discharge becomes a higher potential to an electrode (for example X-electrode) becoming a positive side at a time of the total write discharge is impressed so that the period is set to 10μsec or more or 500μsec or less. Thus, wall charges are sufficiently stored which damp space charges in a selected cell during the period and can be superimposed in a positive direction of the impressed voltage at the total write discharge, and the total write discharge and erase discharge are thus secured for a sufficient operation.
