PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a receiver side to automatically select a recorded image by adding program identification information at a transmission side in a digital broadcast. SOLUTION: A program transmitter applies compression coding to a video signal to generate a video bit stream. In this case, program identification information is inserted to a user data insert part of the bit stream. When a program receiver 10 receives the transmitted bit stream, a program identification information division part 13 divides the bit stream into a video bit stream and the program identification information. A program identification information collation part 16 collates the broadcast program information with information of a program information storage part 18, registered in advance by a viewer and instructs video recording to a recording and reproducing part 19 via a recorded video operation control part 17 when they match. Thus, the viewer selects automatically a program, such as a news or a sport program and records the selected program on a video device 12.
