摘要 1,224,665. Automatic exchange systems. AUTOMATIC TELEPHONE & ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 21 Aug., 1969 [27 Aug., 1968], No. 40914/68. Heading H4K. An exchange system comprises a send timedivision-multiplex highway I/P and a receive time-division-multiplex highway O/P, serving a group of line circuits LE1 to LE10, samples of the intelligence incoming to a line circuit being sent to a data processing device over highway I/P along with the identity of the originating line circuit, the processing device stripping each intelligence sample of its originating line circuit identity code which code is employed to access call particulars so that the intelligence sample may be despatched along with the identity of the terminating line circuit over the receive highway O/P. The data processing device is a general purpose computer having a storage compartment for each line circuit. Active line circuits are arranged in a chain and in each multiplex cycle of the send highway O/P they are allotted consecutive time slots according to their order in the chain, the early time slots of the multiplex are thus fully occupied and the free block of later time slots is said to be available so that peripheral circuits may employ the processor for non-telephone processing. Line circuits,-As shown in Fig. 2, each line circuit has a sampler which in each cycle of a PCM multiplex provides a 7-bit code to a socalled encoder where it is combined with a code identifying the line circuit and is stored pending its transmission, at the instance of a supervisory logic circuit, over the send highway I/P. Each line circuit has a comparator which examines identity codes in the time slots of the receive highway O/P in search of its own code in order to gate accompanying samples to a PCM decoder. The PCM coders and decoders and the wanted station decoders may be common to the exchange or to line groups. The supervisory logic at each line circuit is provided with an input H/WB to indicate time slots free on the send highway I/P, an input ELM to indicate whether a line circuit is active, a priority input signal PS to indicate the allocation of a time slot to an earlier line circuit in the chain LE1 to LE10, and clock pulses to synchronize with the PCM multiplex on the one hand and the highway multiplex on the other hand. In each multiplex frame of the send highway I/P the first time slot is allocated to the first line circuit marked active in the chain, the activity of that line circuit in gating its encoder to the highway signalling the next line circuit active in the chain so that this becomes head of the queue and has the next time slot allocated to it, and so on. As line circuits become active they displace active line circuits lower in the chain circuit and cause them to be allocated time slots correspondingly later in the multiplex. As line circuits release, active line circuits lower in the chain are allocated time slots earlier in the multiplex. When only one free time slot remains available on the highway, the chain circuit is conditioned to prevent more than the first idle line circuit in the chain from seizing the slot in a single multiplex frame as existing connections would otherwise be squeezed out of channel space. If there are no free slots, or a line circuit is not nominated for use of the last free slot, a call origination results in the connection of busy tone from the line circuit. Call processing.-Call particulars are accumulated by the processor with storage of details in the storage section of the line circuit together with a processing sequence code. Busy testing is effected by scanning all line circuit storage sections for the code of the line being called. A busy condition is communicated by compiling a busy code and despatching it along with the identity of the calling line. Ringing, on the other hand, is effected by compiling code sequences of the ringing cadence, or a code that triggers ringing or ringing tone, and despatching with the calling and called line codes. Reply is effected with the use of a tag on the storage section of the line circuit being rung so that when a called line goes off hook response is as for an origination with suitable modification once access is had to the storage section. Conversation is continued with samples, arriving from either party, being despatched to the other in accordance with the other party code store in each line circuit storage section. Release occurs when address codes of either party cease to be received. Parties slow to release may be parked by being sent a call release code to disconnect them for a period. Time of day and calling and called address codes are entered into a meter store on reply and release and are processed every 24 hours. It is stated that the processor may be programmed to effect call transfer, alternate routing, and abbreviated dialling facilities.
