Treatment and/or protection of non-suturable superficial wounds comprises application of an antimicrobial composition (I) to the area of the wound and polymerisation of (I) so as to join separated skin sections and/or form an antimicrobial polymeric film which adheres to the area of application. (I) comprises a polymerisable cyanoacrylate ester (II) and a complex of iodine molecules with a biocompatible polymer (III). The wounds are superficial cuts and/or abrasions which do not penetrate through the dermal layer of the skin to the subcutaneous layer.
