PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract synthesized information charges of a plurality of picture elements by an image sensor with a mosaic color filter mounted thereon. SOLUTION: Shift registers of odd number columns and even number columns in a storage section 11s of an image sensor 11 have different bit number, charges of light receiving picture elements of odd number columns and even number columns are shared in the transfer process of information charges from the storage section 11s to a horizontal transfer section 11h. The information charges are discharged according to a reset clockϕr1 whose period is twice that of a horizontal clockϕh to synthesize the information charges by two picture elements. Since the charges from the picture elements of odd number columns and even number columns are shared and the information charges corresponding to the same color component are continuous, color components are not mixed even when the two picture elements are synthesized.
