PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce chip area with a frame transfer type CCD solid-state image pickup element. SOLUTION: At an image pickup part 11i of the solid state image pickup element 11, invariably accumulating pixels which accumulate information charges through 1st image pickup operation for picking up a rough image and 2nd image pickup operation for picking up a fine image and selectively accumulating pixels which accumulate information charges only through the 2nd image pickup operation are arranged. The invariably accumulating pixels are arranged in, for example, every 3rd line of the selectively accumulating pixels. The number of lines of an accumulation part is matched with the number of lines of invariably accumulation pixels of the image pickup part 11i. The invariably accumulating pixels and selectively accumulating pixels have the same constitution as that on a substrate and are discriminated with applied frame transfer clocksϕa a andϕb.
