PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound expected in its antiinflammatory activity as a ligand binding to selektin. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I [R1 is sulfate or phosphate ester residue; R2 is H, phosphate residue; R3 is H, a 3-16C alyl; (m) is 2-21, (n) is 1, 2, wherein when (n) is 2, R3 does not exit] or its salt, e.g. 2-decyl 1,3-bis-0-(3-0- sulfo-β-D-galactopyranosyl)-1,3-propanediol. The compound is obtained by reacting a compound of formula II (X is a releasable group) with a compound of formula III and a compound of formula IV, reacting the reaction product with di-n-butyl tin oxide, and subsequently reacting the reaction product with a trimethyl ammonium sulfite complex, when a sulfate ester group is introduced.
