Process for prepn. of a high pile carpet with an expanded plastics backing layer comprises spraying a liquid mixt. of polyurethane foam-forming materials onto the backing side of a high pile carpet, on which no backing layer is yet present, under such conditions that the liquid rapidly reacts to form a foam, which cannot appreciably penetrate through the basic fabric. The backing layer firmly anchors the loose pile loops in the base fabric, and improves the dimensional stability of the carpet. The spraying process enables the foamable mixt. to be uniformly applied, without any penetration of the basic fabric. The durability of the carpet is considerably prolonged. |
