PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately form an image in resolution twice that of a writing apparatus having an optical scanning system. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus is equipped with an image data source 101 for supplying image data having resolution twice that of an optical scanning apparatus writing image data on a photosensitive member, an image pattern judging means 102 for judging the pattern in a sub-scanning direction of the image data inputted from the image data source 101, an exposure control means 103 for outputting a laser beam lighting signal and a laser beam intensity signal for reproducing the above mentioned image data corresponding to the image data by the optical scanning apparatus of which the resolving power is half that of the image data, and a modulation exposure means 104 for modulating laser beam on the basis of the laser beam lighting signal and laser beam intensity signal from the exposure control means 103, and the photosensitive member 105 to be scanned by laser beam modulated by the modulation exposure means 104 are provided. |
