An electric cable comprises a group of wires whose cross-section is formed by various plane sides forming a polygonal perimeter. In a preferred embodiment, an electric conductor 10 is formed of a plurality of wires 12 which are originally of circular cross-section. The wires 12 are deformed by being passed through a die (not shown) to adopt an approximately hexagonal cross-section which permits closer packing. Thus, an electric conductor 10 can be formed of seven wires 12 each abutting adjacent wires along planar faces 12a and surrounded by an insulating material 11. This construction gives a smaller cable diameter. The wires (12) may also be octagonal.

|
