PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device with high reliability without the occurrence of unnecessary discharge and damage of panel and drive element, by constituting a discharge drive stage of a discharge channel with a complementary circuit and inserting a resistor into the high voltage source side of this discharge drive stage. SOLUTION: The drive stage of a cathode electrode 19 is constituted of switching element group 22a-22c and the switching element groups 24a-24c, and a plasma discharging high voltage source 21 is connected to this stage. Then, the resistors 25 are inserted serially to respective switching elements 24a-24c. The resistance values of these resistors 25 are made the maximum resistance values that a plasma address liquid crystal display panel is operated normally since the potential of the cathode electrode 19 becomes undecided when the switching elements 22a-22c are turned off. In such a manner, by providing the resistors 25 on the high voltage source input side of the discharge drive stage, the damages of the display panel and drive element due to unwanted abnormal discharge, and a current flowing by it are prevented. |
