<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the circuit scale and to improve motion detection accuracy. SOLUTION: A motion detection circuit 21 detects a motion in the unit of macro blocks based on information of a motion vector and information of an image structure from a variable length decoding(VLD) circuit. As to an area whose motion is discriminated to be zero by the motion detection circuit 21, a mixing ratio generating circuit 22 discriminates whether the area is a still area or a moving area, based on a level of a prediction error to obtain mixing ratios (1-m), m. Multipliers 14, 15 and an adder 16 mix an in-field interpolation signal and an inter-field interpolation signal based on the mixing ratio. The inter-field interpolation signal is used only in the case that no motion is discriminated by the motion vector and the prediction error and in the case of a progressive image. No frame memory is used for motion discrimination and the circuit scale is reduced. Moreover, a prediction error is used for motion discrimination and the detection accuracy is improved.</p> |
