Cyclopropylacetylene is prepared by contacting 5-halo-1-pentyne with a strong base to form the corresponding cyclopropylacetylide. A concentration solvent is added and the resulting mixture is distilled under vacuum. The reaction mixture is contacted with a quenching agent to form cyclopropylacetylene.
