<p>A method for composting dewatered clarification sludge comprises structuring the sludge into pieces which have a large enveloping surface relative to the volume. The structured pieces are dried, eg. by means of a water extraction device, to a dry matter content of 40 to 50 weight %, the dried pieces are piled up to form a loose, homogenous heap and the heap is composted. The ratio of the square root of the enveloping surface of the pieces to the cubic root of the volume is greater than 1.0 and the pieces may be produced by dosing the dewatered sludge, together with an additive such as a liquid carbon - containing additive, e.g. methanol, into a hydraulic press to yield spaghetti - type cylinders. The heap may be precomposted in a rotting box equipped with spiked rollers (10, Fig. 1).</p> |
