The transmission device has a pulsed source signal (Se), containing video or audio information, converted into a channel pulse signal (Sk) used for modulation of a luminescent diode (16), providing an IR signal received by a corresponding photodetector (20,30). The channel pulse signal is provided from the source signal using a flank detector (14), providing a short channel pulse in response to each detected signal flank of the source signal. Each photodetector is coupled via a frequency divider (23,33) to a signal processor (24,34) for recovery of the video or audio information.
