Rotary sealing means 30 for an axle 10 journalled in a roller bearing 12 comprises a metal case 31 having a cylindrical portion 35 with spacer portions 40 for centring the case in a bore 15 in the axle tube 11, an outwardly extending shoulder portion 36 and an inwardly extending radial flange 38, an elastomeric sealing member 32 supported by the inner portion 39 of the flange 38, and an 0-ring 34 which is located on the portion 35 between spacer portions 40 and the shoulder 36 and, in use, is sealingly compressed between the shoulder and the tube 11. The portions 40 are pressed out of the portion 35 and each has a land 41 and tapering ends 42, 43. The member 32 is bonded to the frusto-conical portion 39 of flange 38 and has a sealing lip 50 urged against the axle by a garter spring 33 and a grit-excluding lip 53. The case 31 transmits thrust and is clamped between a retainer ring 23 and a thrust ring 22 fixed to the outer race 16 of the bearing 12.</p> |
