A thin layer is incorporated and consists of a material which wholly or partially absorbs electro-magnetic radiation, converting the absorbed radiation into heat. The layer, during use of the device, is positioned next to the tissue to be ablated. For the production of pulsating electro-magnetic radiation, use is made of pulsating light sources such as flash lamps, pulsating laser systems or pulsating microwave sources. The thin layer of absorbent material is located on a part of the optical light conductive system and indeed at the location where the light leaves the system where the layer is lacking.
