A hydraulic double acting blocking cylinder for activating blocking wedges or bolts in ports onboard ships comprises besides cylinder 10, piston rod 12 and piston head 14, a retainer bush 36 having a front locking ball guiding surface portion 40. The retainer bush 36 and the piston head 14 have cooperating driving means 50, 48 and an intermediate compression spring 38. Internally in the cylinder 10 by the passage 26 for the piston rod in the cylinder end 28, a locking mechanism 30, 32 is placed, having locking balls 32 which by means of the front locking ball guiding surface portion 40 of the retainer bush 36 may be brought into locking engagement with a circumferential groove 34 provided in the piston rod 12 for locking this to the cylinder 10 in its most protracted position, corresponding to enabled blocking of the port. The balls 32 of the locking mechanism 30, 32 may in or by the locking position for the circumferential groove 34 of the piston rod 12 be displaced radially inwards into engagement with the locking groove 34. This radially inward displacement of the balls 32 is implemented by the front guiding surface portion 40 under cooperation of the pressure spring 38 when establishing the locked condition. In order to check the establishing of the locked condition there is in the cylinder 10 incorporated a sensor 54 sensing the field exactly occupied by the locking ball guiding surface portion 40 of the retainer bush 36, which is signalled by the sensor 54 by a signal. <IMAGE>
