The pipe (1) is formed of glass fibre-reinforced plastics and has a peripheral cladding (3) of fibre cement. The coating is formed of a mixture of hydraulically binding material, e.g. cement, fibres, or possibly sand, and of aggregates. The cladding may comprise a flexible reinforcement web or a fleece-type mat. The pipe additionally has an inner cladding (2). The outer cladding may be formed by spraying the cladding material onto the pipe. Alternatively, the fleece-type mat may be saturated with the material for forming the cladding and the whole wound onto the core pipe.
