PURPOSE:To constitute the reflection type color liquid crystal display having a high display grade by expressing a color display and the black and white display of a high contrast with the same picture elements. CONSTITUTION:This element has the structure which is disposed with a color filter layer 10 between a 1st light control layer 9 and a 2nd light control layer 11 and is provided with a light absorption layer 12 in the direction opposite from the incident direction of natural light 13. Incident light is absorbed by the light absorption layer 12 if both of the 1st light control layer 9 and the 2nd light control layer 11 are put into a transparent state and, therefore, the black display is obtd. The light scattered by the 2nd light control layer is emitted through the color filter layer 10 to the outside of the element if the 1st light control layer 9 is put into the transparent state and the 2nd light control layer 11 into the light scattering state and, therefore, the color display is obtd. The white display is obtd. if the 1st light control layer 9 is put into the light scattering state. |
