PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To specify an occurrence of a cell loss and presence of production of a cell loss with a simple method. SOLUTION: In this cell loss detection method that detects a cell loss in the interior of an exchange, an identifier insert section (CCF insert section) 31 to insert a count object identifier CCF to a header part of a cell is provided to a prescribed position in the interior of the exchange and cell counting sections 321 -32n that the counting number of cells to which the counting object identifier CCF is inserted are provided at down-stream from the position provided with the identification insert part and the number N of cells to which the counting object identifier is inserted is compared respectively with the cell numbers N1 -Nn and presence of cell loss and cell loss occurrence part are detected, based on the comparison result.
