The airbag module (10) includes a container (12), an inflatable airbag (16) connected to the container, and an inflator device (14), which is also connected to the container, and which can be controlled to deliver fluid to inflate the airbag. Support flanges (42,46) fix the container to a part of the vehicle, so that it can move in a first direction relative to the dashboard (18) in response to the control of the inflator device. An attenuating mechanism (100) is connected or attached between the container and the vehicle, to attenuate the movement of the container in the first direction.
