PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a high-definition CRT output signal on a lowdefinition liquid crystal display panel by providing a data driver circuit, a gate driver circuit which generates a drive signal for driving horizontal lines of a display panel, etc. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device 100 is supplied with horizontal and vertical synchronizing signals HS and VS and a video signal Din as the high-definition CRT output signal from a PC 200. In the liquid crystal display device 100, a liquid crystal display panel 10 with intermediate definition of, for example, 640×480 dots is provided and a data driver circuit 12 which supplies a video data signal of 640 sampled dots and a gate driver circuit 14 which drives horizontal lines are connected to the panel 10. Then a display timing generating circuit 16 generates a converted dot number MND for down conversion by operation, thinned-out gate pulses, and an output enable signal OE to display the high-definition CRT output on the intermediate-definition display panel 10.
