PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain two-phase signals for controlling the position and speed of an AC servo motor and three-phase signals for controlling magnetic fields from one scale by the same encoder. SOLUTION: The position detector is provided with a scale on which gradations are marked at prescribed pitches and a sensor which can be displaced relatively to the scale. The detector is also provided with a plurality of interpolating means I1 and I2 which respectively interpolate periodic signals from the sensor with different resolution and at least one I1 of the interpolating means I1 and I2 outputs (m) phase (m: a positive integer) of interpolation signals which are shifted in phase from each other by 1. At the same time, the other interpolating means I2 outputs (n) phases (n: a positive integer) of interpolating signals which are shifted in phase from each other by θ2. |
