PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To use a plate type heat exchanger as a heat exchanger for producing supercooled water and thereby to prevent breakdown of the heat exchanger due to freezing of the supercooled water. SOLUTION: Heat transfer plates 53-59 are formed of virtually-flat-plate- shaped plates each of which is provided with openings 61-64 to be inlets and outlets of a fluid in four corner parts thereof. The peripheries of the prescribed ones of the openings 61-64 are sealed with seal members 81, while the peripheral edge parts 66 of the heat transfer plates 53-59 are soldered with each other. By stacking the heat transfer plates 53-59 in a plurality in this way, three flow passages juxtaposed in the sequence of a refrigerant passage A, a first water passage B1 and a second water passage B2 are formed.
