METHOD FOR DIAGNOSING AND MONITORING COLORECTAL CANCER

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To screen colorectal cancer in a patient by measuring the level of HCgp-39 in a patient sample, and comparing it with the measurement level in a reference sample for determining whether the level is increased or not. SOLUTION: Screening is performed for the increased level of human cartilage sugar protein HCgp-39, thus monitoring a patient who receives the treatment of colorectal cancer. The HCgp-39 is a protein with an apparent molar amount of approximately 39kDa that secretes from the explant cultured object of both indirect cartilage cell and synovia fibroblast and is used as a marker for joint trouble appearing in the blood and synovia of the patient of rheumatism arthritis. The amount of HCgp-39 in the sample of the patient of colorectal cancer is at least two times larger than that measured in the blood of a normal patient. Therefore, by measuring the protein level, screening for readily discovering the patient of colorectal cancer and monitoring of the disease condition can be achieved.
