PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a microbicidal food additive which is harmless to human body without adverse effect on the taste of a food product, can kill microorganism sticking to or occurring in the food product and can inhibit liberation of malodor, and provided its production process. SOLUTION: This mocrobicidal food additive is a filtrate which is prepared by the following procedures and is a liquid filtrate containing amino acids, minerals and vitamins: (a) leaves of ginkgo tree are dried, powdered, mixed with water, heated, stirred, then allowed to stand for more than 24 hours to obtain the ginkgo leaf extract, (b) sediment of tree fern is mixed with water, heated, stirred and allowed to stand for more than 72 hours to obtain the fern leaf extract, (c) the ginkgo leaf extract and the fern leaf extract are mixed at a weight ratio of 1/9 and the mixture is allowed to stand for more than 1 month until the mixture becomes clear and filtered. (d) The filtrate is allowed to stand for more than 120 hours and forcibly filtered to remove the components more than 0.4μm long whereby the objective filtrate is obtained.
