One end of a reel or spool is provided with an ancillary flange formed while the moulding is warm to provide a sprung nip for gripping the free end of e.g. a thread wound on the spool. Arrangement is used for gripping continuous profiles wound on to a reel or spool for any purpose. The forming process can be adjusted and controlled to produce a more reproducible clamp than a grip made by nicking the material or relying solely on the mould shrinkage characteristics of the material.
